¡WARNING GRAPHIC!• • Mental preparation is a key component in having a successful outcome when dealing with violence.• • Watch how the defender makes key observations, remains calm, doesn’t draw unnecessary attention to himself, and engages the closest threat until it is neutralized then moves to the next threat - this type of overall response requires mental preparation and training.• • Ways you can conduct mental preparation are breaking down attacks like this one to its key components, conduct visualization exercises, and create generalized plans for different situations to default to during an emergency.• • Follow @stayingsafe_selfdefense for more breakdowns.• • 🎥 from @informate809 • Disclaimer: Most violent encounters provide many concepts and principles to learn from. The point of my posts are to breakdown a particular incident into a few digestible concepts; not to provide full commentary on all lessons to be learned.•¡WARNING GRAPHIC!• • The reason that compliance does not guarantee safety is due to the uncertainty of the attacker’s intentions - we never truly know someone’s intent under they show us.• • Unfortunately, this woman did not have many options and the best chance to create an opportunity for an opportunity would have been as she rounded the rotating display rack - there was little to no forewarning that she would be shot regardless of her resistance, at least not on the surface.• • Emergency planning is vital - to think about how we would/would need to respond in, not just similar situations, but emergency situations in general. The goal is to build a plan to work from and adapt to the situation at hand, rather than building a plan at the onset of the emergency.• • Side note: There is more going on here than what is shown on the surface - let’s discuss in the comments.• • Link to the article with info on this attack in bio.• • Follow @stayingsafe_selfdefense for more breakdowns.• • Disclaimer: Most violent encounters provide many concepts and principles to learn from. What is your justification?• • Recognizing patterns and lack of patterns is a natural survival instinct. We all get those gut feelings from time to time. Essentially, this is our subconscious telling us something doesn’t fit the pattern we are used to; I want you to bring these gut feelings from your subconscious to your conscious.• • This is key - how do you articulate your pre-emptive strike to law enforcement? How do you articulate to your spouse, family, or client why you rushed them out of a venue? How do you articulate the threat you felt in a court of law after a defensive shooting? • So what do you see?• • Follow @stayingsafe_selfdefense for more breakdowns.• • 🎥 from @5h1t_happens • Disclaimer: Most violent encounters provide many concepts and principles to learn from. Hopefully this poll will show a very lopsided result. To me, it’s a no-brainer.

So far, it is. However, semantics are very important to me. With that being said, I specifically worded the poll to throw people off. I’m sure you will be surprised by my answer, but none the less in agreement.
As always, thank you for taking the time to stop by and provide feedback. It’s always appreciated!

It’s a combination of all three – avoidance and preparedness.

While I agree that all three are important when we look at the bigger picture, there is one attribute that believe is above the rest. Make sure to sign up for the Intel Brief to find out, if you haven’t already!
